Patio Home Design Project

A local non-profit CEO sent me a text one day:

“Hi Robin. I got your name from ABC and my daughter XYZ. I love your designs. Are you open to providing interior design services? I bought a patio home and I want a new look for my living room and bedroom. I’m starting over and want to buy new furniture and accessories but need help.”

And that’s how it started.

I was still working on the Big Family Kitchen reno and said I could start in 2-3 weeks. We started with a consultation and I started getting the creative juices flowing. She was somewhat recently divorced and wanted a space of her own that was inviting, cozy, feminine and luxurious. When I saw her house, I thought “French Country” vibes. But, not overt. We discussed her budget and I was sure we could make it happen for this patio home house renovation. She did want some construction updates so I brought over the construction company I like to work with and got bids.

Ready to watch this patio home go from past life to Modern Woman with a dash of French Country style? Let’s dive in!

LIVING ROOM

Before

We already loved the floors and wall color. Her furniture was a solid wood and I wanted to use some of it. The back left chair is something I bought for this project. Just didn’t take it out before Jack started on photos.

Afters

There’s the chair! Also, these couches took weeks to come in. The loveseat took months. Bless her keeping her house straight that long before we could finish pictures of her home! This lion meant something to her so she asked me to incorporate it. I had my contractor build this shelf (modeled after a gallery wall in Magnolia Home) and with the brass legs on the table, it totally worked.

This was her furniture and art and needed a spot. This little area on the way to her bedroom seemed just right for a writing desk.

Dining Area

Before

It’s a great space, but also a totally blank slate. My fave kind of job!

After

Adding a light fixture changes the whole look. I also grabbed that art on the right wall from her collection. The runner is a blue mattress ticking design, which you can’t tell here, but it matches the pillows in the chairs. I got them at Hobby Lobby but can’t find links for you, so I gave similar links.

Morning Room

Before

This area needed some life, cozy, and warmth. She asked for the area on the left to be used as a space to read her Bible or visit with friends.

After

We found this great sideboard, this art, and let it lighten and warm up the room.

Here you get a better idea of the breakfast nook that we transformed into a Morning Room.

New rug, chairs, roman shades, and nesting tables.

Master Suite

Here we took out the light box and added pendants.
I asked the carpenter to frame the mirror, and I fancied up the rest of it with a new rug, stool, floral arrangement, and towels.

Kitchen Organization

Notice the insides of the cabinets. All the open cabinets are the ones we added carpentry organization to.

She wanted easier access to her things without bending over and crawling into the back! Drawers are the perfect solution here.

I LOVE doing these projects. I get these little dot notebooks for every job.

Garage Storage

My sister was like, DO NOT post pictures of the garage, you don’t want to be known for garage storage. And I said, well, at least people will know things can get simpler and more helpful in life. And she said, but you didn’t even take matching baskets or pretty it up or anything. And I said, Eh, yeah, well. It was part of the project. And I offered to pay her to write this post and she would have left it out, but she didn’t. HA! #sisters #iykyk

The shelves are prettier at least!

Thanks for flipping through this house renovation project with me! It was fun and one of my favorite clients. I LOVE happy, easy going, trusting, sweet clients. She was definitely one. <3
