This was the first house I was hired to decorate for a client. He saw our Airbnbs, liked them, and needed someone to furnish his new build. So he asked me if I would decorate it and with my heart beating out of my chest, a smidge of a feeling of imposter syndrome, and total excitement, I said yes. This client’s sister-in-law designed the interior and picked out all the fixtures, colors, tiles, etc but she lived out of town and he needed someone in-town with the ability to stick to a budget and knew I could handle it.

The client requested farmhouse design, so I drafted plans for a simple farmhouse charm vacation home.

Typically a fully furnishing budget for a 3/2.5 is around $20K. Yep. Then factor in what you’re paying me to do this job for you and you’re around $25K. My FIRST 3/2.5 I furnished was only $14K but that was pre-pandemic and since then furniture prices have shot up. So I am very careful to manage budget expectations with vacation rentals and design clients.
